Crystal bowls by Karen T

I often use clear quartz crystal bowls in my work, both when doing energy work and when teaching meditation. The sound that they produce is very soothing and calming. I thought that I would share with you how they are made and how they work.
How the bowls are made
The bowls are made of clear quartz crystal. Quartz is the most common mineral found on this earth and it composed of silicon and oxygen. Quartz crystals transform, store, focus, and transfer energy. We see the results in microphones, radio and television equipment, timepieces, laser tools, and computers.
The crystal silica is ground down and placed in a centrifugal drum at high temperatures (4000 degrees C) with an electric arc in the middle which creates the smooth inside.
The bowls emit a powerful, pure resonance. They are available in clear or frosted bowls in a variety of sizes, ranging from 6 to 24 inches in diameter. Some of the frosted bowls have been coloured and some of the clear bowls have a glass handle which is helpful for mobile use. The larger bowls are much more reverberant, with the tone lingering longer, simply because of the size and amount of crystal.
The size of the bowl does not necessarily determine it's note, although the larger bowls produce lower notes. Each bowl is tested with digital technology to confirm the sound.
How they help our bodies
Our bodies, too, are crystalline in structure. When working with crystals, there can be profound effects on the organs, tissues, and cells, as well as the circulatory, endocrine, and metabolic systems.
Everything that moves vibrates, from the smallest molecule to the universe itself.
Every object and each person has a frequency that is their own optimal vibration; that includes every organ and every bone within our body. When an organ or bone is vibrating ‘out of tune’ or non harmoniously it is called ‘dis-ease’. Vibrational or sound therapy is based on the idea that all dis-ease is characterised by a blockage in the channels on some level. When there is a blockage the organ of part stops vibrating at a healthy frequency and this results in some kind of illness. We can use sound to break up, dissolve and remove those blockages and restore the harmony within the system.
How we use them
Ancient cultures have used sound in their traditional ceremonies and rituals to invoke healing and reach higher states of consciousness; Aboriginals - drumming, digeridoo and chanting, Egyptians and Hindus with chanting, Tibetans with bells and bowls and it is said that the crystal bowls were used by the Atlanteans.
Let us remember that to all outward appearances, music seems to be over as soon as the last chord has sounded. This is not the case. I have often found that the most profound shifts occur in the ‘space’ between the notes and long after the sound has been made. Just as our mind sometimes needs time to ‘digest’ new information so too, do our bodies need time to process the shifts that occur.
That is why during my meditations and using the bowls there will be a pause in the notes; it gives the mind and body the chance to digest what is happening.
We hold regular meditation sessions at Natural Light and if you would like to join us, please get in touch or visit the website here.
