Get Moving through Lockdown!
Updated: Jan 30, 2021
Hello everyone Lou here many of you know me as natural-lights sports therapist but as the COVID-19 lockdown continues to keep many of us at home, it can be easy to fall into bad habits and the detrimental psychological and physical effects of lockdown can be felt by most.
With all the change and uncertainty in life at the moment, taking care of your mental health and physical health has never been more important. One key factor that people must remember is that the 2 go hand in hand.
Now more than ever, people who have never been interested in exercising are starting to realise just how important a role it can play in your mental wellbeing.
Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood.
Exercise is a powerful depression and anxiety fighter for several reasons. Most importantly, it promotes all kinds of changes in the brain, including neural growth, reduced inflammation, and new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well-being. It also releases endorphins, powerful chemicals in your brain that energize your spirits and make you feel good. Finally, exercise can also serve as a distraction, allowing you to find some quiet time to break out of the cycle of negative thoughts that feed depression.
With gyms closed and the daily commute cancelled for most of us, it can seem more difficult to stay active. However, there are plenty of ways you can keep your body moving. The first and foremost is to get outside for a daily walk, jog or cycle. There is no better medicine than fresh air and being outdoors. There is simply no excuse not put on your trainers and jacket and to start walking. Its free, simple and anyone can do it.
As a personal trainer with a variety of clients it has been hard trying to train them online with little or no equipment, however where there is a will there is a way and with creative thinking we have come up with some ingenious home training ideas. As a trainer that has spent the last 10 years refusing to do online fitness, I have now had no other option than to make it work. Bizarrely enough I’m quite enjoying the challenge. Who knew I would be choosing which one of my client’s hand bags would make the best weight when filled with rice!
Over the last 6 months I have been developing a new online fitness membership program which I believe bridges the gap between Personal training and other generic online fitness apps. Suitable for all levels, the monthly programs cover all aspects of training with home sessions for people with no equipment to outdoor and home gym sessions. As well as the programs you also have access to an online live class each week which is lovely to feel like to are training with others. We also have a good catch up and chat about how everyone’s training is going which is great to feel part of a fitness community.
If you would like to find out more about the membership or need some fitness advice then head to www.louloulifts.co.uk or please feel free to email me at info@louloulifts.co.uk.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you again very soon in clinic once natural-light re opens until then take care and stay fit and healthy.
